Monday 25th September 2023 marked a historic day for Regis UK as we won the 2023 TrendVision Award!
The venue rumbled with cheers from our team as Paolo Silveri, Creative Director at Regis Birmingham, was awarded one of the highest hairdressing accolades in the UK & Ireland: becoming the UK Colour Visionary winner at the Wella Professionals TrendVision Award final!
WHAT IS WELLA TRENDVISION AWARD?
This annual hairdressing competition has become one of the biggest in the country and has global recognition. It celebrates the exceptional talent of stylists across the UK and Ireland and for many previous winners, has been the first step towards unleashing their creative career.
The 2023 UK & Ireland Final took place on the banks of the river Thames, overlooking London’s iconic City skyline, at one of London’s leading uber cool venues – Magazine London.
THE LIVE FINAL EVENT
The live final of TrendVision was a night of major celebration for British and Irish hairdressing. More than 700 hairdressing greats gathered to see the 2023 winners and runners up compete in each of the four categories. The night was bursting with energy, excitement and anticipation from the finalists who had worked tirelessly to get to this stage of the competition.
The competition journey began earlier in the year with an online photographic entry. Finalists then competed throughout the day creating looks that showcased the full House of Wella colour portfolio.
Hairdressing legends Patrick Cameron and Fergal Doyal hosted the night, which began with a cocktail drinks reception whilst overlooking the London skyline. This was followed by a delicious meal; inspirational live hair shows by leading artists and the awards ceremony where winners and guests partied into the early hours celebrating their achievements.
CELEBRATING OUR TRENDVISION UK WINNER
Regis was on the edge of their seats as each winner was announced throughout the night and it wasn’t until the very last award, where Paolo Silveri was announced as the TrendVision Award 2023 UK Colour Visionary Winner!
Cheers erupted from the Regis team (the loudest in the venue) as we saw Paolo and his model take the stage to collect the award.
After his spotlight moment on stage, we asked Paolo what the story was behind his look and here’s what inspired him:
“My inspiration for this beautiful look comes from the recent catwalks lead by big designers like Miu Miu, Maison Valentino where they used gender fluid / non-binary models to showcase their vision of the world.
This appealed to me and inspired me because I have always been intrigued by the strong combination of the masculine and feminine. I do believe as a hairdresser, with our knowledge, we can help our guests to discover and find a look which enhances their personality.
I started looking at fashion, colour trends, interior design and fabrics and drew inspiration from a time where the freedom to express one's sexual identity was restricted; to create a modern look which embraces individuality and represents the LGBTQ+ community.
I wanted to create a look which is beautiful and wearable for all sexes and inspired by combining the 70’s feathered look with bangs, and the 80s mullet. I wanted a polished finish with soft nuances of purple / violet using interior design and the colour blocking method for my placements to create movement within the hair.
For the finish it was very important to have shine and softness which helped me to create texture with and a healthy finish.” - Paolo Silveri, Creative Director of Regis Birmingham
Paolo has worked for Regis for 9 years and his achievement is a testament to the exceptional skill and creativity he and all our stylists bring to the world of hairdressing, which we are incredibly proud to be a part of.
Winning an award in the Colour Visionary category demonstrates the ability to create truly exceptional colour work, making Paolo one of the go-to colourists in the region. Paolo will now go on to compete at a global level at the International Wella Professionals TrendVision Award, and we are so excited to support him on this journey.
